Gouverneur Morris's copies, EACH signed by Morris on the front free end paper and with his armorial bookplate each of the front paste downs. Morris was a signatory to the Articles of Confederation and the United States Constitution. He also wrote the Preamble to the United States Constitution and has been called the "penman of the constitution." James Madison explained that "the finish given to the style and arrangement of the Constitution fairly belongs to the pen of Mr. Morris."
