[Hafod, Ceredigion, Wales]: At the Hafod Press, by James Henderson, 1807. Memoirs of a crusader printed at the first private press in Wales, which was operated by Johnes from 1803-10. Plomer, Some Private Presses of the Nineteenth Century (The Library, pgs. 407-08, 1900). From a printing of 230 copies. Contains three engraved plates (one folding), including frontispiece in vol. I, three engraved maps (two of which are folding). Sir Walter Scott’s library at Abbotsford held a copy and he cites to it in his Essay on Chivalry, (Prose Works, vol. 6, pgs. 95-96).

Very good in contemporary diced calf, gilt ruled, rebacked with original backstrip laid down but ends chipped with loss, corners rubbed, the text generally clean but with foxed plates, and with prior owner signature to half titles. Item #205
